The opportunity

A well-established pharmaceutical manufacturer in the Sligo area is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager tolead an engineering function supporting active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) operations. The role combines peopleleadership, equipment reliability, capital delivery and continuous improvement in a safety-critical, highly regulated manufacturing environment. This position will suit a practical and commercially aware engineering leader who can set direction, develop a strong team and work across operations, quality, EHS and maintenance to improve plant performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Set clear priorities and delivery plans for the engineering function in line with site manufacturing objectives.
  • Lead, coach and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team while promoting accountability, inclusion and highperformance.
  • Provide engineering leadership for the upkeep, optimisation and lifecycle management of manufacturing assets andprocess equipment.
  • Ensure engineering activities and equipment standards meet all applicable regulatory, quality, environmental andsafety requirements.
  • Own the technical response to equipment issues, including structured investigations, corrective actions andlong-term prevention plans.
  • Use reliability data and performance trends to reduce unplanned downtime, improve throughput and protect productyield.
  • Identify and deliver equipment, process and infrastructure improvements through a structured continuous-improvement programme.
  • Maintain meaningful engineering KPIs and provide concise performance, risk and progress updates to siteleadership.
  • Manage departmental expenditure and support the preparation, justification and governance of capital investmentproposals.
  • Represent engineering during regulatory, customer and internal audits, ensuring actions are completed to the required standard.
  • Lead engineering and plant projects from definition through execution, commissioning and handover.
  • Manage specialist contractors and service partners, ensuring safe execution, technical quality and value for money.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships and bring technical decisions and agreed actions through to completion.

Experience and qualifications

  • Degree-level qualification in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering or another relevant scientificor engineering discipline.
  • Typically 7-10 years of engineering experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical processing or acomparable regulated manufacturing setting.
  • At least two years of experience leading or supervising engineers or technical specialists.
  • A strong track record of coaching people, setting expectations and building capable, collaborative teams.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations through equipment reliability, maintenance, projects and/or processimprovement.
  • Knowledge of solvent-based processing, hazardous materials, chemical operations or complex process systems ishighly desirable.
  • Experience in API or bulk pharmaceutical manufacturing would be beneficial, but is not essential.
  • Sound working knowledge of GMP, engineering change control, risk assessment and safe systems of work.
  • Demonstrated capability in project delivery, budget ownership, contractor management and cross-functionalcoordination.
  • Strong analytical judgement and a structured approach to troubleshooting and technical decision-making.
  • Clear communication skills and the confidence to influence colleagues across technical and non-technical functions.
